Jericho Deatchment Project Excerpt from catalog essay by Greg Snider
Jericho is the site of a former RCAF seaplane base in Vancouver. When I started to work on site the hangars had been demolished, and most of the rubble cleared away. Latex was poured over the site, locating the original foundations. These were lifted up to reveal the surface markings. The lifts were then applied to the gallery walls maintaining their original posiiton in relation to their original locations. A second procedure involved collecting various coloured soils from the area as a whole and creating large separate sheets on latex soaked tissues. Finally small moulds were taken from architectural fragments. These genreated a sequence of wax and plaster casts until, after a dozen generations, the mould's information had been lost.
